How to Work Full-Time on the Internet

Last updated on April 26th, 2022 by Rahul Kumar Singh

Is it really possible to work from home 100 percent of the time and do something other than unskilled jobs? It’s hard to get an honest answer to that question amid all the hype surrounding those work from home marketing scams.

The majority of them are doing nothing more than selling a product or course of study that earns a very large profit for the owner but ends up doing little for your at-home career.

The good news is that there are quite a few well-paying, professional-level jobs that you can do completely online. In most cases, unless you’re a self-taught technical genius, it helps to have a college degree in a field like accounting, computer science, or English.

The majority of better internet-based jobs are in the fields of tech, taxes, and teaching. What’s the best way to go about finding an at-home job that can pay the bills and offer you a rewarding, long-term career? Here’s a summary of what you should be prepared to do.

Search Your Soul

What do you want to do? Keep in mind that the range of at-home, Internet-based careers is not as wide as the traditional job market. Even so, you’ll need to decide where your talents lie and what you enjoy doing.

If you are of a technical bent, consider obtaining a degree in computer programming. If the world of finance intrigues you, think about accounting or banking. If you enjoy teaching, go for an education degree with an emphasis on English language instruction.

If you need a little more persuasion to choose one path over another, look at the median annual salary for any given job. Compile a list and compare salaries across jobs to see which one is more lucrative. Granted, you should not use money as the primary motive. You should always choose to do something that you are passionate about. If it pays well then even better!

Find the Funds

Whatever you do, you’ll need to pay for it. If you have enough resources to finance an education yourself, do so. But the grand majority of job seekers turn to a reliable alternative, which is student loans.

Not only do student loans offer highly competitive interest rates, but they are simple to apply for. You can apply online and get a decision quickly.

Secure the Degree

You can either attend a brick and mortar university or get an online degree. Be ready to show up in person to take the end of semester exams, even for what some schools market as completely online degree programs.

No matter how stressful this time can be while in school, it will be worth it in the long run by investing in yourself.

Choose Your Job

Your decision point here is whether to work for yourself or for someone else. If you teach English to non-native speakers, you’ll almost certainly have to start out working for one of the large international agencies.

After a year or two, you could start your own company but will need to be ready to do some long-term planning and intense marketing to build up a client base. If you choose to do tax preparation or financial counseling, your options are even more widespread.

Many accounting firms now hire fully remote workers based all over the world. These individuals do tax prep, offer help with startups, assist people who need business consulting services, and more.

Computer science grads can pretty much take their pick of remote jobs from programming and coding to troubleshooting and data analysis.
